Before starting GGULGGEOK HOUSE,
we spent many years in the craft beer industry,
discovering remarkable beers along the way.
Creating new styles, experimenting
with diverse ingredients, and exploring
different brewing cultures was deeply rewarding.

Yet even then,
there was always a quiet sense
that something was missing.

"What if we could create a drink
that was truly our own, using ingredients grown
in our own region?"

That question naturally led us to makgeolli.
A drink built on rice, water, and nuruk,
enriched with local ingredients and reimagined
through our own perspective.
Rather than simply recreating tradition,
we wanted to craft a Korean rice wine that
felt at home on today's tables and in everyday life.

And then, we found ourselves asking one more question.

"What kind of experience do we want to create?"

A drink only becomes an experience
once someone takes the first sip.
No matter how thoughtfully it's made,
its story isn't complete until it's shared.

That's why we never set out to create
just a bottle of makgeolli. We wanted to create
a place that felt unmistakably ours.

Our own brews. A space that reflects who we are.
Music and films we love. Seasonal ingredients and
thoughtfully prepared food. A place where
even strangers can fall into conversation with ease.

More than anything, we wanted to create
an experience where people could gather, linger,
and connect through makgeolli.

That idea became GGULGGEOK HOUSE.

What we wanted to create wasn't simply a brewery,
but a home where makgeolli, food, people,
and stories come together naturally.

Every brewery shares the same goal:
to make great makgeolli.

That's where it all begins.
But what we've always hoped to create is
something beyond the drink itself—
the time people spend around it, and
the experiences they take home with them.

in Gwangalli in 2022 still brews with
